SHOULDER PAIN

Rotator cuff tear

A tear in the tissues connecting muscles to bone (tear around the shoulder joint) often occurs in people who repeatedly perform the same shoulder motions. Conservative treatments like rest, ice, physiotherapy in mild or partial tears. At times surgical repair is required for complete tears.

Interventional therapy:

Refractory pain in partial tear responds very well with regenerative PRP which is injected specifically with ultrasound guidance.

Bicipital Tendinitis

The biceps tendon is one of the most common sprained muscle during various upper limb motions leading to the inflammation of the tendon. It is characterized by pain in the front of the shoulder and weakness.

Interventional therapy:

Initial conservative management with medications and physiotherapy is done. For refractory pain, analgesics and anti-inflammatory medications are injected under ultrasound guidance. In case of tears regenerative PRP is injected specifically with ultrasound guidance.

Sub deltoid bursitis

At times due to injury, over usage or certain condition like rheumatoid arthritis there is a bursa (Small fluid filled sacs near the joints) that gets inflamed. It causes pain in front of the shoulder and movement is quite painful.

Interventional therapy:

Initial conservative management with medications and physiotherapy is done. In certain patients when pain does not resolve intervention is done and analgesics and anti-inflammatory medications are injected under ultrasound guidance.

Acromio-clavicular joint arthritis

The AC joint arthritis is more common in middle age. It develops once the cartilage begins to wear out. It is characterized by pain in the top of the shoulder and difficulty in moving the shoulder.

Interventional therapy:

Initial conservative management with medications and physiotherapy is done. For refractory pain, analgesics and anti-inflammatory medications are injected under ultrasound guidance into the joint. In case of early to moderate osteoarthritis regenerative PRP gives a good relief and is injected specifically with ultrasound guidance.

Chronic Shoulder pain

Multiple etiologies of chronic shoulder pain are rotator cuff syndrome, persistent post-operative pain, osteoarthritis of the shoulder or acromio-clavicular joint leads to a persistent intolerable pain and functional disability.

Interventional therapy:

Initial conservative management with injections and physiotherapy is done. However, in resilient cases, suprascapular nerve which supplies the shoulder joint can be ablated using pulsed RFA
